A workshop of Mass chants for Marian memorials, led by Marcel Pérès, 11–13 October 2021 in Kraków
In the search for suitable Mass chants for Marian memorials, the Church proposes, as one possibility, Gregorian chant from the Graduale simplex.
We asked Marcel Pérès, the eminent French musicologist, composer, singer and researcher of tradition, to arrange these Gregorian propers for three-part choir.
You will be able to learn them during the workshop, led by the author himself, from 11 to 13 October 2021 at the Dominican Friary, 12 Stolarska Street in Kraków. These chants will be included in the liturgy of the “Fatima” Mass at 5 p.m. in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity.
The workshop schedule is as follows (classes will take place in the Hall by the friary Atrium):
Monday, 11 October – 16:00–19:00
Tuesday, 12 October – 16:00–19:00
Wednesday, 13 October – 15:00–16:45
17:00 – “Fatima” Holy Mass with the workshop chants and a Rosary service
To take part, you must fill in the application form in advance and pay the fee – the cost of participation is PLN 150. The form will be available on this page from the end of September to 9 October inclusive, or until places run out.
He is a composer, singer, organist and music historian. In 1982 he founded the Ensemble Organum. For more than thirty-five years he has carried out a wide range of research into musical memory and bringing it to life. He has recorded about forty albums and is the author of numerous books and articles. He is particularly interested in the history of rites seen through the prism of chant. He wants to understand why and how people make and have made music. His pilgrimage through the meanders of musical memory has led him to explore all musical forms from late antiquity to the beginning of the 21st century.
